In Honor of Boo-Boo

We're having some wedding jitters around our house. No, not mine. :) Happily wed now for four years, two months, and 24 days - but who's counting?

No, the jitters are actually for the flight I'll be on with my 18-month-old daughter to go from Memphis to Richmond so we can ATTEND the wedding. It's a short flight (nothing like my transcontinental flights from Northern California!), but I've not flown with her this ACTIVE before. She's going to have to sit on my lap for the flight duration. Before, with her not even crawling, this wasn't a biggie. Where was she gonna go? But now, walking--no, running--everywhere...yikes. Watch out, flight attendants!

The good news is that this is also the first flight she will be on since she's been on what we like to call her "airplane kick." About a month ago, she realized she could say the word "airplane," although it sounds like "airpane" instead) and she's ENAMORED of them. She wants to see pictures on the computer, YouTube videos of them taking off and landing (she yells "down airpane!" telling them to come down), points at them flying overhead--and then says the word ad nauseam after the sighting. I can only imagine what she will do once she realizes that she is ON one. Watch out, everyone sitting around me within hearing distance!

We'll be meeting my husband there, as he's actually in the wedding and is going on a different flight...WITH OUR CAT. Okay...can you say trip to be remembered? Cookie's never been in a carry-on bag cat carrier. We're not really sure how she's going to handle it! I won't go into the reasons we're bringing our cat to our in-laws, but suffice it to say I'm not happy about it. I'll miss my little Boo-Boo, but will get her back ASAP, I promise. That said, I'm dedicated today's post to my cat, Cookie (aka Boo-Boo - see picture above).

All for now. Prayers will be appreciated! Have a wonderful weekend!

Eeep. Bring lots of goodies, books, and...stickers! That really worked with my daughter when we had a layover once. :)

(What a sweet looking kitty!)

Bye bye boo boo! (that was just fun to say/write)

Yes...lots of goodies and stickers and a new suprise toy to pull out at that crucial moment when she is feeling antsy -- and juice cups! (they won't let you bring juice through security, but you can fill it up from one of the stores once you're inside). Babies can't chew gum and can't always equalize that popping-in-the-ear-thing that comes w/ taking off and landing. Juice forces them to swallow and helps. Good luck and have fun!!

I flew from Denver USA to Brisbane Australia BY MYSELF with a 12mnth old! The flight from Denver to LA was about two hours. The flight from LA to NEw Zealand was 15hrs and the flight from NZ to Brisbane Australia was 3.5hrs. All up we were flying for 22.5hrs and that is not including the delay in LA airport or the delay in NZ. We were traveling ALONE for just over 30hrs. So... I have the following advise. Pack toys- all the favs. Use the help of the stewards. Airline staff are really great. Walk those aisles at every chance you get. Do lots of walking BEFORE you get on the plane. Take a DVD player if you have one and lots of snacks and drinks. Airlines cannot be counted on to have something your child will actually want to eat! Oh, and pray. PRAY LOTS! :) thinking of you :)

My sister flies from Vegas to Michigan with my VERY active niece. Her secret?

The dollar store!

My sister spends about $10 on dollar store toys, then puts them in her daughter's carry on. Her attention span lasts for about 15-20 min. on each item, then they put it away and get another. It works for them!

The big trick is that my niece ONLY gets these toys on the plane...then she's never bored with them before they start :)

Have fun!

Pack a fun bag for your little sweetie. Stickers, tiny games, and candy always are a hit.

Poor Cookie--I'm sure she'll be fine!

Have a terrific time!

I hope all goes well. A bag filled with surprises helped a great deal when we flew from Germany to California with our two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

Oh girl, been there. LOL Have fun with your girlie. Most people are okay with kiddos on a flight, as long as they're not screaming. LOL I def. recommend that surprise baggie idea. :-)
Hope you all have fun!

Ah, poor Boo-Boo! What a cute kitty! And Traveling at that age is torture no matter what mode of transportation you use! Maybe you can bring your lap top and play a DVD for her?

We'll be flying end of next month...my son will be 20 months at that time and I am wondering how that will go! The flight will be 2-1/2 hours...direct flight thankfully!! I already packed the portable DVD player! I plan on buying him a Crayola Color Wonder set....he loves to color and this way it won't make a mess!

He loves airplanes too...every time he sees one he points and yells "Plane!" Too cute!!

I always suggest things to suck on in case the pressure is off in the plane. Good luck.

You mean it's not pronounced 'airpane'?

Let's hope that once you're in the air, she doesn't shout, "Down pane!"

Yikes - that would make me nervous too! Hope it goes well and she's super content to look out the window?? Yea...probably not, but ya never know! Also...do you have to get rid of the kitty for a short time? That would be tough!

Hi, dropping in from Sarah Dawn's. How exciting for your daughter - her first airplane ride! You'll have to take lots of pictures so you can make a scrapbook. This is a very special milestone in her life. I had to wait 40 years until I got to ride on an airplane!
